Sex Witch: The Home Edition
Oh friends, welcome. Hello. So glad you’re here.
When we decided we would be getting our own blogs, I was instantly excited to showcase life through my lens, to be seen, to just exist in the ether without the fear, obligation, and guilt that comes with social media (for me). I got off socials last year after a big life shift. They’re still “there” - you CAN find me if you want to. What you’ll find is not an accurate representation of the person you’re learning about right now. Everything has changed and everything continues to change on a daily basis. ESPECIALLY our home.
Last year I took a life transforming Self Care Advocacy program - during that program, I was taught about set and setting, and how truly important it is to ME to be surrounded by beautiful things. Our home is filled with things that bring my family joy. Even my partners Funko Pops that he proudly displays on our coat tree inside the bright blue vestibule. That being said, we have a menagerie of STUFF and every single item has a rich story behind it. Nothing in our home is meaningless. Thrifted, gifted, reused, repurposed - this is the goal for my home, for my art supplies, for gifts. What you’ll find below is my musings for this month, specifically about my home, as well as a little home tour. Next month is too far away for me to know what kind of content you’ll be getting. Maybe it’ll be a rant about plants or a tour of all of my favorite rings. The world is our oyster, slurp up witches.

Hyggelig is a feeling, not a thing.
So here’s the thing. I was raised in a cult where we were all told what to do, how to feel, and even admonished us to keep a “humble” home. So discovering my style has been quite the journey!
Hygge/Hygglig is the Danish art of being cozy. It’s one of those things that I thought everyone but me knew about - turns out they don’t! It’s all about finding that perfect lighting to set the mood, bringing your absolute favorite cozy blankets to display in the winter, adding layers upon layers of texture and simple. I find myself explaining my style as utilitarian and yet somehow maximalist. Hygge just fits. It’s more about set and setting than it is a specific style.

Everyone is a damn artist. Fight me. In my wildly humble opinion - there is no such thing as bad art. Everything is art. So may something. Put your energy into something that you can see every day.
Grab a canvas, throw paint at it in your favorite colors.
Find a stick and some yarn, make a wall hanging.
Ask your friends to draw with you.
Show up to Erotic Art night.
You have everything you need within to create beauty.

Well, you don’t. Plain and simple. I didn’t realize that I’d been making altars for years and years. Now that I’m doing it intentionally - lemme tell ya - there’s so much damn magic floating around in my house.
You start with a table, then you’ll need 3, 5, or 7 levels of height (see picture below). Then add all of the things that make you feel like you. The things you want to bring in, symbols of letting go of the things you don’t want to keep. Crystals, plants, food, statues, money, art, items that are sacred to you. - put it ALL on there. Do it with intentionality and remind yourself why you love/want all of these things in your life.

Layers. Layers. Layers. The more texture, the better.

Not with that mother fucking mantra you won’t! What I love most about the search for gold within the mountain of junk is saying “no” to items that want to come with me. Things talk, you can hear them if you listen closely, Not really, obvi. You know that moment of “Do i want this or do i just want SOMETHING?” Well, ask the thing. Ask it if it wants to come with you. Sometimes they say yes and i realize that my true answer was no!
So seek joy in the search through the piles of the things that don’t want to go home with you.
-
Of fuck yeah. Throw a pile of those mother fuckers in a corner, do you even KNOW how hyggelig pillows are. They increase comfort, exponentially.
Have you ever uttered the words “I have too many pillows?” Fuck no. We all just need more pillows in our life. They’re cozy and magical for creating more seating when your couch is full of all your besties.

Well, I just keep a playlist that’s about an hour long with my current favorites and just put that on repeat all day. Literally.
My partner however, he is our consistent music curator. He knows how to set the vibe for the people, for the setting, for the everything. He’s never explained just HOW he does this and I believe in the power of Spotify. If that’s too generic, ask your friends for a few of their favorite bands and start putting things in the cue.
I don’t have a magic answer for this one and at the same time, just do it. Set your vibe. Choose to put the same 6 songs on repeat. You’ve got this.
